In an air-cooled engine having a cylinder head with top and bottom walls 2, 1, connected by cooling fins 3 forming coolant air ducts 4 and a combustion chamber 5, formed in the bottom plate 1, surrounded by a reinforcing projection 6 projecting upwards into the air ducts 4, the portion of the ducts 4 in the lee of the projection 6 is filled in level with the projection by a built-up portion of the lower plate 1. The part 11 prevents the coolant air stream being deflected by the projection 6 out of contact with the lower plate 1.
