1,007,181. Air-cooled cylinders. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ. A.G. Aug. 3, 1962 [Aug. 4, 1961], No. 29941/62. Heading F1B. In an air cooled cylinder having a cast iron liner 1 and a light metal jacket 2 carrying the cooling fins 3, the ratio of the mass per unit length of the jacket 2 to the liner 1 is increased in the lower part of the jacket, which is not as highly heated as the upper part, to avoid unequal radial expansion. In Fig. 2 the mass per unit length of the jacket 2 is increased by projections 8 thereon fitting indentators in the liner. Alternatively the lower fins may be of greater thickness than the upper ones or the lower part of the wall of the jacket may be thickened.
