Abstract
924,024. Construction and cooling of cylinders. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Aug. 28, 1961 [Sept. 10, 1960], No. 30942/61. Class 7(2) An air cooled I.C. engine has a cylinder 2 having cooling fins and which is clamped by a finned collar 8 directly on to a support 7, integral with, and extending from the crankcase 6, in such a manner as to be freely expansible axially in a downward direction. The cylinder may be a light metal chill casting made by the " Alfin (Registered Trade Mark) process with a layer of hard chromium applied to the cylinder or to a shrunk-in liner 10 by direct molecular bonding or by a molten intermediate layer.
