Abstract

989,940. I.C. engine cylinder heads. F. A. E. PORSCHE. March 3, 1964 [March 20, 1963], No. 8882/64. Heading FIB. A cylinder head 4, e.g. of light metal, is secured by bolts 5 which transmit their pressure to sleeves 7 having collars 9, which sleeves are cast in to the cylinder head. The sleeves are, prior to casting, covered with a layer of protective material, e.g. graphite, except the region of the collar 9 so that a metallic bond between the sleeve and head is only obtained at the collar 9, a small gap 12 remaining between the remainder of the sleeve and the head whereby expansion of the head does not influence the sleeves. The nuts 16 of the bolts secure in position on the sleeves a bridge member 15 which supports a bearing 18 for the valve rocker arms 23, 24.
