Abstract

826,893. Composite casting; making I.C. engine cylinder heads. MOTOREN-WERKE MANNHEIM A.G. VORM. BENZ ABT. STAT. MOTORENBAU. Feb. 7, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 4108/58. Classes 83 (1) and 83 (2). [Also in Group XXVII] A cast iron ring 2 is cast into a light-metal cylinder head 1, and has a groove 4 to lock with the cast metal. The ring is heated to 400‹ C. before insertion in a mould and casting of the head 1 about it, and is subsequently machined away on one side to form the curved profile shown. The ring 2 has a curved surface 7 to avoid notching-stresses in the cylinder head.
