Abstract

Cylinders, cooling.-In a two-stroke-cycle engine of the type in which a trunk piston reciprocates over a fixed head, the water-cooling of the head is effected so that no air is entrapped in the head. In Fig. 1, a vent pipe 13 is shown carried to the top of the head and has a removable screw plug at its lower end through which the air can escape In a modification, the head is supported on pillars which are used as the circulating-pipes, one of them being carried to the top of the' head. When the top of the head is domed, the pipe is bent over and carried to the crown of the dome. In a further modification, a transverse baffle-plate on the top of the inner wall 3b allows only a small space for the flow of the cooling-liquid which carries the air with it.
