Abstract

188,359. Ingram, J. A. July 6, 1921. Cylinders, cooling. - The cylinders are cooled by means of an air jacket 25 around the head and the adjacent portion, and by a jacket 10 containing a good heat-conducting liquid, such as a solution of sodium ammonium chloride around the lower portion. The air supplied by a collector 31 facing the direction of rotation is sucked through the jacket by the ejector action of the exhaust gases, with which it mingles after leaving the tube 28, Fig. 2. Fins 14 are provided within the air jacket, and are formed on a member 13 which may be separated from the cylinder by an asbestos liner 24. The exhaust and inlet pipes are shown as passing through the air jacket.
