Pistons, cooling.-The piston of an internalcombustion engine is formed with a chamber A through which air is blown through ports E<2>, F<2> in the cylinder walls, by a fan on the crank-shaft, preferably constituted by vanes H on the flywheel. The chamber A may be formed integral with the piston, or may be detachably secured to it, e.g. by means of the gudgeon-pin. Cooling- ribs may project from the piston head into the chamber A; or the chamber may be formed with baffles which cause the air to take a spiral or other circuitous path.
