Valve-gear.-Scoops are fitted on the engine to direct the air into the crank case and thus cool the cylinders, pistons, and valve-gear; a fan is employed to assist in its withdrawal. In a radialcylinder engine, the scoops a are situated around the centrifugal fan o on the forward side of the engine; air enters the crank case and escapes through a passage containing the valve cams and the boss of the fan, as indicated by the arrows, and as described in Specification 5071/15.
