Description

Patented et., dl, M22.
hun
VASILE SFETESCU, OF WEISSENSEE, vNEAR BERLN,
.Application filed March 24, 1922. Serial No. 546,499.
T o aZZ/whomz't may concern.' i
Be it known that I, Vxsinn Srn'rnseu, a citizen of tlie Republic of Rumania, residing at Weissensee, near YBerlin,'Germany, have invented certain new and useful lmrovements in Air-Cooled Cylinders for Engines with One or More Cylinders, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to internal combustion engines and more particularly to internal combustion engines of the air cooled type.
The primary object of the invention is to secure perfect carbure-tion, intensive utilization of the gas mixture and a reduction in fuel consumption.
A further object of the invention is to provide an engine in which the explosive mixture in unheated condition is led directly onto a portion of the wall of the combustion chamber of the cylinder, so that said mixture will tend to cool said portion, while at the same time said portion of the combustion chamber of the wall will tend to heat the explosive mixture and thus vaporize the fuel.
Withthe foregoing objects outlined Aand with other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features herein` after described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The accompanying drawing shows a vertical sectional view of the upper portion of one of the improved engine cylinders.
ln the drawing e designates the cylinder of an internal combustion engine of the lair cooled type. The interior of this cylinder merges into a combustion chamber and this combustion chamber with a passageway c3. The combustion chamber and passageway have an upper wall or head d', which is preferably integral with the cylinder. This passageway c3 extends laterally Afrom the axis of the cylinder and at its outer end communicates with ports c and g', which are controlled respectively by the intake valve c2 and the exhaustvvalve g. The port g communicates with the exhaust gas passageway f 'while the port c communicateswith the communicates passageway c which extends from a. position surrounding the axis or" the e liederl to said inlet port c". The passageway cl con:` Cates with a vertically arranged ne z., way c which communicates with the'interior of an intake tube et, that receives the plosive mixture 'from the carburetor (not shown). The tube cd is connected to the wall ol the intake passageway. The wall d is arranged between the passageway c and the passageway c3 .and combustion chamber, and is provided with a valve i.
ln operation the explosive mixture from the carbureter passes into the intake tube c and is then directed downwardly through the vertically arranged passagewav a onto the wall a", so that said wall is choled oy the mixture As the mixture continues along the passagewa f c it cools other porv tions of said wall and is itself heated by said wall. When the mixture passes through the port c the fuel is in vaporized condition and it is' further heated as passes into the combustion chamber d. The charge is ignited by a spark plug (not -shown) arranged in the aperture /'z., and the exhaust gases may pass ed by 4way of the port g/` and passageway j",
@wing to the fact that the explosive mixture entering the engine is constantly cooling the wall d, the explosive mixture in the combustion chamber will be prevented. from selfdgnition.
F rom the foregoing, it is believed that the construction, operation and advantages of the invention may be readily understood y by those skilled in the art, and it is apparent that changes may be made in the construe tion illustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention as expressed inA the claim.
What ll claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
lnan internal combustion engine, an 'air cooled cylinder provided with an integral head, av4 horizontally disposed 4laterally extending passageway arranged in said head and communicating .with the combustion chamber of the cylinder, a horizontally dis. posed explosive mixture inlet passageway arranged in the head and located above the fst mentioned passageway and said coinice' pesfson chamba?, pa-.riggon Wal?. arrange the axis of the cylinder in order to concen-A l0 bem/@Qn the inlet passageway and 'the comtrate said mixture @n said partition Wall; busaon chamber and rst mentioned pasn testimony whefeof I ax my signay adapted. 0 b heated By the gases ture in presenc or twowtnessefs.
