Abstract
942,034. Photographic development. KODAK Ltd. Aug. 11, 1960 [Aug. 20, 1959], No. 28455/59. Heading G2C. An exposed photographic silver halide emulsion layer is developed in a moist or wet condition and in the presence of an electrolyte and an organic developing agent by contacting it with a cathode, the anode being at the back of the material, and passing a current through the material to raise the #H of the layer sufficiently to cause development to take place. The anode may be a metal plate, or the material to be developed may be passed through stainless steel rollers between which a direct potential is applied. Development is arrested by reversing the current. The electrolyte may be an alkali metal sulphite, bisulphite, chlorate, chloride, sulphate or bisulphiteformaldehyde complex. The developing agent may be hydroquinone, p-methylphenyl-hydroquinone, catechol, 4-phenyl catechol, 4-methoxy-1-naphthol, metol or 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone. The developer and/or electrolyte may be in the emulsion layer, or they may be in the solution used for moistening the exposed layer. Specification 937,494 is referred to.
