Abstract
904,462. Photographic processes. KODAK Ltd. Dec. 1, 1958 [Nov. 29, 1957], No. 38748/58. Class 98 (2). In reversal processing of colour or black and white material, an aqueous solution of an alkali metal borohydride is used as a chemical fogging agent to form the reversal latent image. In an example, an exposed silver chlorobromide emulsion is developed in a hydroquinone developer containing paraformaldehyde and bleached with potassium permanganate. After cleaning with a sodium bisulphite solution, the emulsion is treated with a 1% alkaline solution of potassium borohydride. The whole of the remaining silver halide is immediately reduced to silver. An example of reversal processing of a tri-pack colour film having layers containing colour couplers is also given. The steps include development with an N-methyl-p-aminophenol developer and hardening with an aqueous solution of potassium chrome alum. Sodium borohydride is applied in a 0.025% alkaline solution for 30 seconds in order to render all the remaining silver halide developable by means of a colour forming developer of specified composition. The Specification refers to the prior use of aromatic hydrazines as fogging agents. Specifications 651,749, 653,284, 702,162, 728,368 and U.S.A. Specifications 2,266,443, 2,272,191, 2,552,240, 2,552,241 and 2,552,242 are referred to.
