879,443. Photographic bleaching methods and solutions. ILFORD Ltd., and KELVIN & HUGHES Ltd. Sept. 7, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958], No. 29920/59. Divided out of 842,658. Class 98(2) Bleaching of silver images where necessary in rapid processing, as for the apparatus of Specifications 814,079 and 814,080 wherein the elapsed time from exposure to projection may be less than thirty seconds, is effected by a solution consisting of potassium dichlomate, acetic acid and sulphuric acid. The processing may be direct or by reversal and by jet application, and it is explained that the presence of acetic acid in the usual dichromate mixture avoids the build up of sludge in following alkaline developer by the acid bleach. An example describes use of four jets for colour developer, the bleaching solution, thiocyanate fixer and hypo wash successively, to produce monochrome images.
