Abstract

1,249,277. Stabilization of developed photographic images. AGFA-GEVAERT A.G. April 29, 1970 [April 29, 1969], No.20532/70. Heading G2C. A process for the production of a photographic image comprises exposing a photographic material which contains at least one silver halide emulsion layer, development, and stabilization of the unexposed and undeveloped silver halide, wherein the bath used in the development step contains at least one compound of the following formula or a salt thereof: wherein n is 1, 2 or 3. The developing agent may be in the light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and development is then effected with an aqueous alkaline bath. Stabilization may be effected with a bath containing ammonium thiocyanate and which may also contain cyclohexanone bisulphite. The concentration of the compound of the formula above is preferably 0.5 to 10g/litre of the treatment bath in which development is effected. These compounds stabilize black silver images particularly upon prolonged storage under extreme climatic conditions.
