Abstract

1381054 Photographic processing EASTMAN KODAK CO 25 Jan 1972 [25 Jan 1971] 3478/72 Heading G2C A method of processing a photographic material having a support and at least one hydrophilic colloid layer containing light sensitive silver halide grains and a non-diffusible dye-forming coupler, comprises bringing the imagewise exposed colloid layer into contact with a hydrophilic colloid layer containing a silver precipitating agent carried by a processing web and containing an aqueous solution of an aromatic primary amine colour developing agent, a silver halide solvent and optionally a hardening agent for the hydrophilic colloid, so that at least part of the undeveloped silver halide grains in the material are dissolved by the silver halide solvent and transfered to the web to form an image of silver or an insoluble silver compound the hydrophilic colloid layers having a reticulation temperature greater than 65‹C and a melting point greater than 85‹C, at least after treatment of the photographic material with the processing web, and then separating the web and material. The colloid layers may be hardened either prior to, or during, processing. The silver halide solvent is preferably an amine-sulphur dioxide addition product e.g. 2-methylaminoethanol - sulphur dioxide, or alternatively an alkali metal thiosulphate, thiocyanate or selenocyanate, thioglycerol, an aminoethanethiol or p, p - dithiosuberic acid. The silver precipitating agent is preferably nickel sulphide. The photographic material may comprise more than one colloid layer, each being sensitive to a different region of the spectrum and after processing with the web it may be bleached and fixed to give a colour negative, or alternatively the material may be of the direct positive type.
