Abstract

1,268,126. Photographic process. AGFAGEVAERT-AG. Dec.3, 1969 [Dec.11, 1968], No.58935/69. Heading G2C. Photographic images produced by (1) exposing and optionally photographically processing a lightsensitive layer to produce an image of noble metal nuclei, and (2) applying a peroxy compound, whereby the nuclei catalyse a colour forming oxidation reaction involving the peroxy compound and a colour forming component, so that a visible image is formed or a visible image already present is intensified. The image of noble metal nuclei may be formed by (a) exposing a layer comprising a noble metal salt, (b) exposing a layer of photoconductor (especially TiO 2 or ZnO) and applying a noble metal salt (before or after exposure), or (c) exposing, colour or black-and-white developing and optionally fixing or bleach-fixing a silver halide emulsion. The colour-forming component may be (i) one or more amino and/or hydroxy substituted, aromatic hetero- or carbo-cyclic compounds, (ii) an aromatic hydrazine, (iii) a leuco or vat dye, or (iv) a photographic developer and colour coupler. The peroxy compounds specified are H 2 O 2 , perborates, percarbonates, persulphates and benzoyl peroxide. The catalytic effect of the metal nuclei may be increased by a pretreatment with noble metal or peroxy compound. The final image may be bleach-fixed.
