Abstract
926,646. Photographic half-tone copying. KODAK Ltd. July 2, 1959 [July 2, 1958], No. 22690/59. Class 98 (2). For high or extreme contrast reproduction a half-tone or line image is exposed to a silverhalide emulsion layer having at least 85 mole per cent silver chloride and this is developed in a solution containing a hydroquinone developing agent, 0.01 to 0.05 molar of sulphite ion, a restrainer and sufficient alkali to give a pH of at least 9.0. The emulsions may be of 85 to 100 mole per cent chloride: those containing 5 to 15 mole. per cent bromide are especially useful, 1 to 2 mole per cent iodide also may be present. The developing agent may be hydroquinone itself, the sulphite ion may be formed from sodium sulphite or sodium formaldehyde bisulphite, a bromide is used as restrainer and carbonate as alkali. Other addenda may be present in the emulsions and developer as well. Four examples quote emulsion and developer mixings and specify contrast gradient and dot quality data, including comparisons over a range of materials within and not within the terms of the invention, after fixing in hypo. Specifications 235,211, 606,141, 654,690, 680,593, 682,355, 777,181 and 841,136 are referred to.
