Abstract

1279604 Processing photo-developable silver halide materials KODAK Ltd 19 Sept 1969 [19 Sept 1968] 44634/68 Heading G2C An internal latent image formed by imagewise exposure of a layer of a photo-developable silver halide material is developed or a visible image formed by photo-developing such a latent image is intensified by treating the layer with a solution of an oxidizing agent to bleach any surface latent image and then treating the layer with a silver halide developing solution containing a silver halide solvent. The oxidizing agent may be an aqueous solution of a ferricyanide or an acidic aqueous solution of a dichromate. The silver halide solvent may be a thiocyanate or thiosulphate, preferably present at 1-10g per litre of developing solution, or may be an alkali metal bromide present at at least 0À08 molar. The layer may be treated after development with a fixing or stabilizing solution. Images of good stability and discrimination (i. e. image density minus background density) are produced.
