Abstract

925,313. Photographic silver salt transfer processes and sensitive material therefor. AGFA A.G. Jan. 7, 1960 [Jan. 8, 1959], No. 627/60. Class 98 (2). A light-sensitive material comprises a support with a silver halide emulsion layer and an unsensitized colloid layer comprising a watersoluble starch ether, carboxymethyl cellulose or a water-soluble salt of carboxymethyl cellulose, the colloid layer having incorporated therein a polyethylene glycol, over the emulsion layer. Development nuclei may be included in the colloid layer and, preferably, a heterocyclic nitrogen-sulphur compound as well. After exposure the material may be treated in a transfer-developer and squeezed against a sheet as of writing paper to transfer all or part of the colloid layer containing a positive image thereto, and produce a laterally correct image on the sheet. Repeated transfers may be effected. Development may be effected with a solution which does not contain a silver halide solvent but such, and also the nuclei, may be incorporated into the transfer sheet. Two examples detail the process, the first using nuclei in the colloid layer and hypo in the developer and the second these materials in the transfer sheet. 5-phenyl mercaptotetrazole is used in the colloid layer in both instances.
