Abstract

907,146. Photographic materials and developers; migratory transfer processes. KODAK Ltd. March 26, 1959 [March 31, 1958], No. 10504/59. Class 98 (2). A photographic silver salt migratory transfer process in which the receiving layer contains a silver precipitant, is carried out in the presence of a silver halide solvent and 5-nitro-, 6-nitro-, or 5; 6-dinitro-indazole. The indazole may be present in the emulsion layer, the receiving layer or the developer solution, which latter may also contain the silver halide solvent. The light-sensitive material may comprise the image-receiving layer over which the silver halide emulsion layer is coated, and the binder of the latter may be a dibasic acid mono-ester of a cellulose derivative according to Specification 868,241. The silver halide emulsion may contain potassium bromide and it may be of the direct positive type as described in Specifications 524,087 and 667,206. The developing agent may be a 3-pyrazolidone, if desired mixed with a weak developing agent as disclosed in Specifications 767,700, 767,701, 767,702 and 778,792. Alternatively, a developer such as 3<SP>1</SP>,4- dihydroxy-diphenyl may be included in the emulsion layer. In the examples, a metal/hydroquinone developer comprises metaboric acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium tetraphosphate, hypo and 5-methyl-benztriazole, or benztriazole itself and 5-nitro-indazole, another metal/ hydroquinone developer includes 3; 6; 9; 12; 15; 18; 21; 24 - octaoxa - hexacosane - 1; 26- bis (5-ethyl-2-methylpyridinium methyl sulphonate) as well as hypo and 5-nitroindazole, and 3-pyrazolidone/hydroquinone developers include 1 - # - phenethyl - quinolinium bromide or 3-methyl-2-#-phenethyl-isoquinolinium bromide as well as hypo. Suitable precipitants for the receiving layers are specified. The emulsion layer or the developer also may contain a 3-methylbenzothiazolium salt, 2-mercaptobenzamide or its N-methyl derivative, N; N - dimethyl - 2; 2<SP>1 </SP>- dithiobenzamide or N; N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - 2 : 2<SP>1</SP> - dithioformanilide.
