Abstract

941,840. Two-part couplings. UNITEDCARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Jan. 2, 1961 [Jan. 11,1960], No. 127/61. Heading H2E. In an electrical connector comprising a body 15 of insulating material formed with a bore 18 having an abutment 28 intermediate the ends thereof, a pin (or socket) contact 11 is located in the bore by a resilient split retainer 24, in a circumferential groove 23 in the contact, which engages one side of the abutment and a flange 20 on the contact which engages the other side of the abutment. When inserting the contact 11 in the bore, the retainer is compressed by the abutment and then expands after passing through it. The retainer has an outwardly bowed annular portion having a gentle slope down to one end and a sharper slope at the other end forming the upper terminal edge of the retainer (as shown) and determining the force necessary to effect removal of the contact from the body.
