Abstract
936,926. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. March 21, 1961 [March 25, 1960], No. 10246/61. Class 38 (1). A spring 202 for retaining a removable contact 100 in a hole 201 in a connector mounting block 200 has slits 217 at one end to form four resilient fingers 208 . . . 211 and its inner diameter is tapered at 212 to form a shoulder 213 which when the contact 100 is in position abuts a shoulder 108 while the end 214 of the spring abuts a further shoulder 106 on the contact. A longitudinal gap (not shown) in the spring allows it to be compressed so that shoulders 203, 204 may clear mating shoulders 205, 206 in the hole to facilitate insertion and removal of the spring from the block. Removal of the contact from the spring and the spring from the hole is effected by means of tools (not shown). In a further embodiment (Fig. 7) the spring is formed from sheet metal and includes a plurality of outwardly biased long fingers 509 . . . 512 which press against the wall of a mounting hole (not shown), and inwardly biased short fingers 513, 514 which co-operate with a tapered portion of a contact (not shown). The spring is retained in the hole by a bead projecting from the wall of the hole, which co-operates with a circumferential groove 503, rotation of the spring being prevented by an interruption 506 in the groove which co-operates with a gap in the said bead.
