Abstract

866,308. Two-part couplings. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 20, 1959 [March 22, 1958], No. 9239/58. Class 38 (1). One connector member 10 of a two-part coupling comprises an outer metal sleeve 23 retaining and projecting axially beyond an inner insulating member 11 affording a concentric bore 12 on the side wall of which are disposed resilient strip contact elements 17, 18 connected to terminals 15, 16 mounted on the upper end of the member 11, and an insulating masking member 26 of top hat form which is normally urged endwise by a spring 30 so that its flange 28 abuts a shoulder 29 in the bore 12, access to the contacts thereby being prevented, the member 26 being displaceable by the insertion of a male connector member 41 mounted on a tubular metal component 47 and including a cylindrical insulating male part 42 carrying complementary contacts 43, 44. The connector members 10 and 41 are held together by lugs 50, 51 on the male part engaging in corresponding slots 34 in a flange 33 on the outer sleeve 23. A closure cap 57 having an upwardly extending flange 58 containing a gasket 59 is retained in position against the sleeve 23 by a nut 60 on the screw-threaded portion 48 of the component 47. An earthing terminal is provided.
