Abstract
1389849 Two-part couplings CUTLERHAMMER INTERNATIONAL FINANCE Inc 8 Sept 1972 [9 Sept 1971] 41910/72 Heading H2E A socket contact 2 comprises a bore 6 adapted to receive at one end a terminal pin (10, Fig. 7, not shown), with a shoulder (14), and has a resilient pin-retainer 22 comprising a split sleeve with integral tabs 34 which extend through an aperture 20 in the wall of the socket contact 2 to latch against the shoulder (14) of a pin when inserted in the bore 6. The socket contact 2 has a chamfered entrance, a shoulder 12 against which a pin-shoulder (14) abuts with the tip (16) of the pin (10) entering a reduced diameter portion of the bore 6 beyond the shoulder 12, annular ribs 18 for securing the member 2 in an insulating support, notches 30 along sides of the aperture 20, a notch 26 and a collar 24. The retainer 22 is positioned around a portion 23 of the socket contact and is held by a tab 28 engaging the notch 26 with an end bearing against the collar 24. A U-shaped cut 32 across the split in the retainer forms two tabs 34 and two end portions 36 which are offset inwardly and given a dipped shape to protrude through the apertures 20 into the bore 6, such that, in use, the tabs 34 engage behind the pin-shoulder (14) and the end portions 36 bear against the cylindrical surface of the pinshoulder to enhance electrical connection. The offsetting of the tabs 34 is such as to provide a sloping portion adjacent the tabs which can be engaged by a tool to bias the tabs clear of the aperture to permit removal of the pin.
