Abstract

933,478. Valves. MAXOL HEATERS Ltd. Dec. 19, 1960 [Dec. 19, 1959], No. 43213/59. Class 135. A draw-off tap for liquids comprising a spindle B having a rubber &c. ring C coacting with a conical seat a in the inlet a<SP>1</SP> and a closing spring F is opened by a forked lever G pivoted at g<SP>2</SP> on a nut B<SP>1</SP> screwed to the spindle. The lever can be moved in either direction about the pivot g<SP>2</SP> to open the tap, but when it is moved in the anticlockwise direction the lower ends g of the forked portion are lifted clear of a projection e<SP>1</SP> on a sleeve E enabling the lever to be moved about the axis of the spindle B to cause the tap to be held open by engagement of one of the ends g with the outer face of the projection. A loose ball valve h<SP>1</SP> arranged to be pressed against a seat h<SP>3</SP> by the pressure of liquid in the tap housing vents the outlet a<SP>2</SP> to atmosphere when the tap is closed and the pressure in the outlet falls below atmospheric.
