Abstract
931,888. Drying apparatus. A. MARK. March 26, 1962 [March 27, 1961], No. 11451/62. Class 34 (2). Divided material is dried in a fluidized bed formed by drying gas ascending through a gas-permeable supporting wall formed of a layer of ball-like members comprised between two superposed perforated partitions. A gaspermeable supporting wall in a fluidized bed drier comprises superposed wire gauze or the like partitions 11, 12, having a layer of balls 13, e.g. of glass, ceramic, or metallic material, therebetween, a portion of which balls are of small diameter which are fluidized by the gas. The layer of balls may be evacuated and filled through valves 15, 14 and the balls washed by a liquid from a tube 21 after removal of the material to be dried to remove dust therefrom. The drying gas may be wholly recycled through conduit 7, blower 3 and inlet conduit 2, or a portion of the gas may be bled-off through a branch conduit 8 to a cyclone separator 9 and exhaust blower 10, make-up air being heated by a heater 7 and added through a conduit 5 to the inlet of the blower.
