Abstract

In a batch pedestal dryer the container 10 holding the material to be dried, which container is movable into and out of the drying position by trolley 19, is held in a gastight manner between vertically adjustable casing 5 which sealingly engages the upper rim of the container, and a lower part of the pedestal 1 which sealingly engages the rim of the gas permeable (e.g. perforated or porous) bottom 14 of the container. The dryer includes adjustable tubular filters 11 and fan 6 in casing 5 and air filters 2 and heater 3. The casing 5 is adjusted by mechanically, pneumatically or hydraulically operated device 4. The container may be supported on trolley by a pivoted lever 20 or spring-loaded mounting. In use heated air is drawn through the container 10 by fan 6, and either recirculated or exhausted through outlet 8 in casing 5.
