A fluidized bed drier comprises a casing 1 enclosing a vessel 2 having an air permeable bottom 3 for heated, fluidizing air or gas which is withdrawn from the vessel through a filter 4 by a fan 9, air inlet openings normally closed by valves 13, 14 being provided in the top of the casing between the filter and fan whereby suction on the filter can be reduced by opening the inlets and the material collected by the filter can be allowed to return to the vessel.
