A grain drier according to Specification 814,639 comprises a lower casing defining, beneath the bed formed by overlapping slats 2, inlet ducts 12, 16 which communicate with the slits 3 between the slats in different regions of the length of the shoot. An upper casing 9 covers the bed and supports an extractor fan 11 which, in operation, draws air through the separate ducts beneath the shoot, the slits 3 and bed of material thereon to an exhaust outlet 24. The air drawn through duct 12 is admitted thereto through a housing 14 containing an oil burner so as to heat the air, whereas air entering the open ends of the duct 16 is unheated. A vertical wall 17 between the ducts 12, 16 may have a shutter controlled opening, and shutters may close the open ends of the duct 16 to direct part of the hot air in the duct 12 into the duct 16.
