Abstract

988,251. Drying grain. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd. Oct. 23, 1962 [Aug. 17, 1961], No. 29762/61. Heading F4G. A grain drier comprises a column having side walls 10, 11, Fig. 1, between which extend two spaced shoots 12, 13 formed of inclined, perforated gratings 14 for the zig-zag passage of the grain from an upper trough 20 to a lower trough 22 and discharge elevator 23. The upper portion of the column has thereabout a spaced hood comprising a top cover 43 and front and rear covers 38 of canvas or the like, which covers extend alongside upper parts of the front and rear of the column on a framework formed from side panels 32 of sheet metal and bars 35 secured thereto, so as to form passages between the covers 38 and the column. Above the side wall 10 the hood opens into a duct 44 for connection to an extractor fan 46. A plenum chamber 30 opens through the wall 10 to fed heated air from a chamber 28 and fan 29 to an intermediate drying section 31 of the column and cool atmospheric air is drawn by a fan 24 through the grain at the lower end of the column and recirculated through a duct 26 to a preheating section 27. The dust and moisture-laden air from sections 31 and 27, escapes through gratings 14 to the passages between the covers 38 and the column for discharge.
