Abstract

856,533. Grain driers. OLDING & CO. (SCOTLAND) Ltd., J. Sept. 16, 1959 [July 8, 1958], No. 21802/58. Class 34(2) Grain is dried in a bin 1 having front, rear and side walls 2...5 by the passage of hot air between air inlet and outlet ducts 15, 16 respectively extending throughout the bin. The air is fed to the ducts 15 from an oil-fired or electric heater via a chamber 9 at the rear of the wall 3, the air entering each duct at the top of the bin being controlled by a slidable damper 25 actuated by handle 29 located in front of the wall 2 and connected to the damper by a rod 26, Fig. 3, not shown. Each duct 15, 16, the side walls 15A, 15B, of which may be perforated, is open at its underside or closed by an air permeable sheet and is supported intermediate its ends by a bar 21 forming part of a supporting structure 20. The bin floor 6 slopes towards the grain discharge 7 normally closed by a perforated plate 8. The hot air temperature may be 110‹F. and the air heating may be automatically controlled in dependence upon the humidity of the discharge air.
