Abstract

929,723. Tanks. CHICAGO BRIDGE & IRON CO. April 19, 1962 [Nov. 28, 1961], No. 15192/62. Class 69 (1). A weather seal 25 for a floating roof on a liquid storage tank comprises a slap-like flexible wiper 26 having a large surface area 37 adjacent the inner surface 36 of the tank and urged thereto by plate-like springs 27, 28 connected to and extending beyond the wiper 26 in a vertical direction for connection to the periphery of the floating roof 11. The tank is provided with a primary vapour seal 12 carried by the roof. The vapour seal comprises overlapping shoes 13 of corrosion-resisting metal which are urged against the surface 36 by means, not shown, and a flexible fabric cover 16 between the ring 13 and the roof 11. The extension 28 of the spring 27, 28 is connected to the same support 17 as the ring 13 by the same bolts 18 as is the cover 16. The upper part 27 of the spring covers the inner surface of the wiper 26 which is a foam rubber-like substance, has thin plastic, wear-resistant covering and a bevelled top edge 29.
