Abstract

1,195,417. Tanks with floating roofs. PITTSBURGH-DES MOINES STEEL CO. 29 Sept., 1967 -[20 Feb., 1967], No. 44597/67. Heading E1T. In a tank of the floating roof type having an annular seal in the form' of a plurality of flexible units 50, each unit is secured to the roof for relative movement by suspension means 70, 72 and contains means, such as a liquid, to urge some into sealing contact with the roof and tank wall whilst the various "units are interconnected' by equalizing means 80, 84, 82 to permit relative expansion and contraction thereof. The units may contain polyurethane foam or fiberglass and the suspension means serve as air vents therefor, see Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). Again, the opposed internal surfaces of the units may have a layer of fibreglass bonded thereto which layers are urged apart by springs acting on metal plates, see Figs. 7 and 8, (not shown). For further modifications involving minor details and means for allowing relative expansion and contraction of the units. Figs. 9-14 (not shown), and the Specification should be referred to.
