Abstract

880,039. Tanks. NEILL & SON (ST. HELENS) Ltd., WM., and LAITHWAITE, J. July 29, 1960 [April 30, 1959], No. 14782/59. Class 69 (1). A flexible floating roof for a petrol &c. storage tank comprises a sheet 18 of flexible material which is held spread out by at least one inflatable body 16 below the sheet. In the example the body 16 is a torus projecting beyond the periphery of the sheet 18 to rub against the wall of the tank and is provided with a reinforcement such as a flap on the outside of the periphery which trails against the wall to protect the body 16 against wear. Additional inflated members 17 may be provided near the centre of te sheet 18 and are interconnected by pipes 18, 19 for inflation purposes.
