Abstract
846,359. Flexible barges. FLEISHER, A. July 2, 1958 [July 5, 1957], No. 21168/58. Class 113. A flexible, collapsible container for the transport of cargo comprises a wall 10, Fig. 1, shrouded in a net or sheath 12. The container may be mono- or multi-cellular, as in Fig. 3, or compartmented as in Fig. 4, the compartments having restricted connections, or being separated, as at 4 and 6. The container may have fins to prevent yaw or roll, have rudder surfaces, and/or have diving vanes as on submarines so that it can be towed under water. It may be ballasted to add stability or to cause it to ride lower in the water. It may have protecting deflector plates or shields, or an external envelope to reduce surface friction and provide a cushion of water or air between the envelope and the container. Buoyant devices may be provided when dense material is to be carried.
