Abstract

1,269,495. Life saving vessel. W. P. SMITH. 12 Sept., 1969 [12 June, 1968], No. 12103/68. Headings B7A and B7M. A life-saving vessel comprises a closed container 11 provided with a closable hatch 12 and with an attachment 13 to the deck of a ship at the base, and has self-compensating ballast tanks 14 which ensure that the container remains upright in the water. In the embodiment shown, the attachment 13 is a threaded collar and each ballast tank 14 contains a bag 18 filled with fresh water. As this water is removed, sea water enters through valve 19 in compensation.
