Abstract

1398618 Floating tanks O MO 6 July 1972 [9 July 1971 17 Jan 1972] 31787/72 Headings B7A and B7S A mobile, submersible storage tank 1 which may be towed or self-propelled comprises longitudinal and transverse bulkheads 2, 3, 4, superstructure 5, which may include a deck 6 and crane 8, and bearing surfaces 9 beneath the tank. The tank may be made of concrete. In one mode of use, the tank is ballasted to lie on the sea-bottom. Oil is then pumped in to displace most of the water the remainder of which is expelled by compressed air so that the tank is buoyant and can move to its destination where it is made to sink to the bottom for unloading. The tank may be loaded and unloaded partly submerged or fully afloat. The tank 1 may be constructed partly afloat. A portion of the mid-section 11 is attached to a transverse bulkhead 4 so that the assembly floats horizontally. The mid-section 11 is completed and one end-section 10 or 12 is attached. The assembly is now turned on end through 180 degrees and the other end-section is attached.
