Abstract
1454113 Floating vessels J M FAYREN 16 Jan 1974 [10 July 1973] 01972/74 Headings B7A B7M and B7S A floating vessel comprises two independent lower hulls 1 of elongated configuration and arranged in spaced and parallel relation and an upper hull 2 integral with and bridging the hulls 1 at one end, the hulls containing ballast tanks 5, 6 and the upper hull 2 containing equipment for ballasting and unballasting the tanks 5, 6 whereby the vessel may be submerged to levels between two extreme positions 9, 10. The upper hull 2 may carry a crane 3 and the lower hulls 1 may be interconnected by rigid transverse members 4. The vessel or more than one such vessel is of use in the transport or lifting of bodies or ships floating in water the vessel or vessels submerged to the level 10 being moved with their hulls 1 beneath the object to be raised, the tanks 5, 6 then being unballasted so that the object is supported on the hulls 1 for transportation or for maintenance to be carried out. In an alternative construction the two hulls 1 are disposed parallel to each other but not spaced to provide in effect a single lower hull, and the tanks 5, 6 may be used for transport of liquid cargoes. The vessels may be towed in use or may be self-propelled. For unballasting the tanks 5, 6 compressed air may be used, the displaced ballast water leaving by way of a valve located in the bottom of the hull or hulls 1. The vessel may also be used for the raising of a sunken object the object being raised to a position between the two spaced hulls by block and tackle with the vessel at the level 10. The tanks 5, 6 are then unballasted to raise the vessel and object above the water level.
