Abstract

1348903 Offshore storage tanks S HEIEN 4 Aug 1971 [18 Aug 1970 2 March 1971] 36598/ 71 Heading E1H An offshore oil or gas storage tank installation is formed from a plurality of interconnected steel or reinforced concrete containers which rest on the sea bed and extend above the water surface, each container being formed from assembled hollow cassion sections. The containers are floated into position and then sunk by permitting them to fill with water. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which ships 8 may be berthed within a circle of containers 2 with an opening 7. Larger ships 9 may be moored outside the installation. Adjacent containers are fastened together by cables 6, Fig. 3, perforated plates 4, and decking 5. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, adjacent containers are secured together by cables 34, Fig. 8, and flexible joints which may comprise either a raised rib 30 which engages a groove or a ball 32 which engages a socket 33. Derricks 41 may be provided for loading oil.
