Abstract

1343222 Floating roofs for liquid storage tanks PITTSBURGH-DES MOINES STEEL CO 14 Jan 1972 [13 April 1971] 1821/72 Heading E1T A floating roof for a liquid in a storage tank has a peripheral annular buoyant pontoon 4 and a plurality of spaced buoys 5 attached thereto in order to maintain the roof afloat and level in the event of a leak, the buoys 5 being disposed either on the upper surface of the roof or projecting slightly down through the roof, and the pontoon 4 having sealing means 15 engageable with the tank T. The buoys 5 may be hollow or filled with a foamed material. The pontoon 4 may be of circular (as shown) or trapezoidal cross-section, with reinforcements if desired (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown).
