Abstract

955,998. Ships for the transport of bulk fluids. MARYLAND SHIPBUILDING & DRYDOCK CO. July 22, 1960 [July 24, 1959], No. 25674/60. Heading B7A. [Also in Division F4] A strip for the transport of liquid gas cargo has inner and outer hulls 112, 102, the inner hull 112 forming a hold into which insulated tanks 130 are fitted to extend substantially the full width thereof. The tanks 130 are supported by longitudinal and transverse beams 160, 160<SP>1</SP> and elements 152, 152<SP>1</SP> at the bottom, chocks 156 at the sides and beam 172 at the top in a manner which allows expansion and contraction movement. The tanks are rigidly secured to the intersection of the beams 160, 160<SP>1</SP> and outwardly from the centre are joined to the beams and elements by support blocks and anchor bolts locating in elongated holes with a suitable insulating material included between abutting parts. Each cargo tank is divided into cells by a bulkhead 142 and the outside is insulated by mineral wool covered with wire mesh. Provision is made for a water spray between the inner hull 112 and the cargo tanks 130. Each cell 140 is provided with a hatch and cargo pump which is secured to the ship by a flexible connection.
