Abstract

1438357 Carrying liquefied gas SENER TECHNICA INDUSTRIAL Y NAVAL SA 31 Aug 1973 [2 Sept 1972] 41155/73 Heading F4P A ship 2 has at least one independent pressurized cargo tank 1 supported by a pair of continuous shells 4, 5, located one inside the other and a continuous skirt 7 mounted on the upper side 8 of the double bottom of the ship and under the shells. The skirt is stiffened by plates and joined by its lower edge to the upper side of the double bottom and has an upper edge of the same perimeter as the lower edge of the inner shell 4 and disposed facing it. A stiffened platform 6 attached to the skirt runs between the upper edge of the skirt and the inner wall 9 of the ship's hull and a plurality of flat plates 10 are disposed between the platform and the skirt to lie in planes perpendicular to the plane of the bottom of the ship. These plates are stiffened and aligned with the transverse and longitudinal floor members of the ship and are welded by their inner and outside edges to the skirt and platform respectively and by their bottom edges to the top side of the double bottom. The outside edges of those plates aligned with the transverse floor members are welded to the inner wall of the hull and the outside edges of those plates aligned with the longitudinal floor girders are welded to the skirt of an adjacent corresponding tank, if any, or to the extreme transverse bulkhead in the tank zone of the ship. A tray 17, disposed under the tank independent of the ship's structure and of the support structure has an insulating coating and a stiffening ring 20 and is arranged to catch any slight leakage of liquid from the tank. The free edge 18 of the tray is situated adjacent inner shell 4 and below a leak deflecting plate 19 joined by its external edge to this inner shell.
