Abstract

1,105,715. Stabilizing ships. JOHN J. McMULLEN ASSOCIATES Inc. 22 Aug., 1966 [24 Aug., 1965], No. 37536/66. Heading B7M. A stabilizing container or tank for a ship comprises a pair of wing tanks 30, each positioned beneath the deck 16 and at opposite sides of the hull, two sloping girder plates 22 mounted across the hull to provide structural support for the deck 16 and extending between the wing tanks 30 to provide a connecting channel between them. Narrow plate 24 mounted on top of corrugated bulkhead 14 is the base of the channel between the wing tanks, each of which has a sloping bottom plate 34 which in the portion where it crosses the channel between the wing tanks serves as a sloping restriction plate 42 for the liquid partially filling the stabilizing container or tank. Openings 44 are provided in restriction plate 42 which terminates in upper vertical leg 46 in which openings 48 are provided to reduce weight and to allow free passage of air.
