In a container ship with vertical container guides 15, intermediate horizontal beams 13, 14, further horizontal beams 17, 18 extending at right angles to the intermediate horizontal beams and with supporting members 19, 20 inwardly extending from beams 13, 14 and bulkheads 11, removable deck plates 21-26 formed to avoid the container guides are supported by the beams and members 19 or 20 and serve to support general cargo, whilst their removal permits containers to be loaded.
