Abstract

1,254,674. Container ships. MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG. CO. Ltd. 12 May, 1970 [14 May, 1969], No. 22824/70. Heading B7A. [Also in Division B8] Stacked cargo containers 11 are secured in a ship's hold by rows of pivoting arms 13 movable about horizontal axes by hydraulic rams 17, and carrying projections 16 which engage depressions in the tops of the lower containers, and corner members 15 which, together with fixed corner members (not shown), locate the bottoms of the upper containers. Bars 14 interconnect the arms 13 at each level and side of the stack. Each ram has a lost motion connection with its arm which is such that during the final lowering movement a hook 23 engages an abutment 24 on the arm to lock it in its operative position.
