Abstract

1323720 Container ships MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 12 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 48355/70 Heading B7A [Also in Division B8] A container ship of the kind described in Specification 1,230,280 is provided with container supporting members 6, 6a which can be projected into the container hold to support the containers at a middle stage in the con. tainer cell. Two sets of levers 24, 24a, Fig. 4, sense the stacked containers, one set 24 situated above the supporting members and the other set 24a beneath them. Pins 12 and springs 13 move the supporting members to the projected position when the two sets of sensing levers are actuated by the containers 1, la at the same time and to the retracted position when the containers on the supporting members are raised. In the embodiment shown six containers are stacked below the supporting members. In loading the containers hydraulic cylinder 15 is operated to move piston rod 16 from position X to position Y of Fig. 1. The movement of the rod causes the actuating shafts 11 and 11a to slide in opposite directions and the pins 12 are moved from position X to position Y of Fig. 3.
