Abstract

In a container ship the guides 10 forming the cells in the container holds are provided with container supports 14 located at each of the four corners of the cells and positioned just above the height of six superimposed containers 12. The supports can be moved to a retracted position to permit stacks of six containers to be loaded into and withdrawn from the cells and they can be moved to extend over the top of the sixth container to support additional containers above the stacks.
