Abstract

1430937 Mounting liquefied gas tanks in ships CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd 18 July 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 36011/72 Heading F4P A tanker for carrying liquefied gas has a double hull, at least one cargo tank with an external insulation lining and stiffeners 8 which support and hold the lining parallel to but spaced from the side walls of the inner hull, the stiffeners 8 having apertures 11 through which water may drain to the bottom of the hold. Similar stiffeners are provided on the transverse walls of cofferdams which subdivide the tanker into individual cargoholds. The water is removed via a drain pipe incorporating a control valve (not shown) which may have a means for indicating the presence of water. The stiffeners 8 may be formed from angle iron, T- or I-section girders and their flanges are connected by clips to plywood panels forming an insulation lining similar to that described in Specification 1,203,496. Reference is also made to Specifications 1,214,055; 1,300,730 and 1,430,936 (see Division F4). (For Figure see next column.)
