Abstract

859,334. Tanks. HAMMOND IRON WORKS. June 12, 1959 [Oct. 28, 1958], No. 20162/59. Class 69 (1). A liquid storage tank having a floating roof 11 which carries a scuff band 24 engaging and sealing against the inner surface of the tank shell 10 is combined with a protective strip 28 secured to the upper region of the roof and including an outer marginal edge portion 33 engaged against the inner surface of the shell above the scuff band 24, the strip 28 including an annular marginal edge 29 secured to the roof 11 and a main body portion 31 angulated upwardly and outwardly with respect thereto. The marginal edge 41 (Fig. 4) is joined to the main body portion 42 by a portion 43 of reduced thickness. A stiffening strip 44 is embedded in the material of the protective strip. The outer marginal edge 45 may be of soft rubber and the main body portion 42 of relatively hard rubber. The strip may be provided with radially extending stiffening ribs.
