Abstract

1,059,602. Tank with floating roofs. J. H. WIGGINS. June 9, 1965 [Sept. 14, 1964], No. 24468/65. Heading EIT. A tank with a floating roof is provided with a seal consisting of a flexible envelope 21 which is secured to the position 12 of the roof and bonded to a series of arcuate foam segments 31 each having a metal backing plate or shoe 32 and a spring-loading mechanism 34. Each shoe 32 has a lip 33 to provide with the mechanism 34 a one-way drive. The upper end of the envelope 21 may be bonded to the shoe 32 and the mechanism 34 be pivotally connected thereto, see Fig. 3, (not shown). The nature and loading of the seal is such that it can ride over ice deposits on the tank wall or rivets.
